Dear shareholder,
As expected, the crisis continued to intensify in many economic regions in 2009. Despite its
diversified portfolio, the Orell Füssli Group was unable to escape the impact of the economic
turmoil.

Orell Füssli reported lower sales and profits in the year under review. This was mainly
attributable to the difficult market conditions in the industrial business and postponements of
production in security printing.
